In depth of field, the subject is in focus and everything else is blurrier.  This effect makes the subject stand out more.

We do not have to use the Rule of Thirds so much. Instead we can just avoid the middle of the frame.

Rule of Thirds

In the rule of thirds, the subject of the photo must be at the intersections of two imaginary lines.  The imaginary lines create a 3x3 grid, 9 boxes total.  The rule of thirds will make the subject of the photo pop out.

Fill the Frame
By filling the frame, the picture would not look empty.  The subject(s) will be more noticeable too.
